{"id":1509,"date":"2017-10-07T02:23:58","date_gmt":"2017-10-07T02:23:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.karongadiocese.org\/?p=322"},"modified":"2017-10-07T02:23:58","modified_gmt":"2017-10-07T02:23:58","slug":"bishop-mtumbuka-joins-75th-aniversally-cerebration-edith-stein-encourages-increased-collaboration-malawi-german-youth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.karongadiocese.org\/index.php\/bishop-mtumbuka-joins-75th-aniversally-cerebration-edith-stein-encourages-increased-collaboration-malawi-german-youth\/","title":{"rendered":"Bishop Mtumbuka Joins the 75th Aniversally Cerebration of Edith Stein; Encourages Increased Collaboration Between Malawi and German Youth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Mwawi Shaba (In Darmstadt-Germany)<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Martin Mtumbuka of Karonga Diocese, who is currently visiting Germany; on 5th and 6th October, 2017, joined the community of Edith Stein School in Darmstandt, Germany for the 75th commemoration of Edith Stein after which the school is named.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_327\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-327\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-327\" src=\"http:\/\/news.karongadiocese.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG-20171006-WA0022-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-327\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bishop Interacting with 13 grade students at the school<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Edith Stein was a German Jewish Philosopher who converted to Roman Catholicism and became a Discalced Carmelite nun.\u00a0She is canonized by the Church as a martyr and saint of the Catholic Church after she was killed at\u00a0the Auschwitz concentration camp.<\/p>\n<p>At the prayers and mass to commemorate the day, Bishop Mtumbuka encouraged the young students at the school to always guard against the external influences that can poison their hearts. He preached about repaying bad provocation with love other than retribution, just as Edith Stein always did.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_324\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-324\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-324 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/news.karongadiocese.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG-20171005-WA0038-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-324\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bishop Mtumbuka at a reception at Edith Stein Schule<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>2The Bishop also encouraged cooperation between the students in Germany and Malawi, especially those from Edith Stein School and Karonga Diocese Schools of St. Mary&#8217;s Karonga Girls and Chaminade which he argued are beneficial for learners from both Malawi and Germany.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from mass, the celebration was ambelished by art, music, dance and sports done by the students and meetings with teachers and management.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Mtumbuka accompanied by Fr Joseph Sikwese (Pastoral Secretary) and Mr Mwawi Shaba (Caritas Secretary) is visiting Gemany where they are meeting with various partners of the Diocese in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Mwawi Shaba (In Darmstadt-Germany) Bishop Martin Mtumbuka of Karonga Diocese, who is currently visiting Germany; on 5th and 6th October, 2017, joined the community of Edith Stein School in Darmstandt, Germany for the 75th commemoration of Edith Stein after which the school is named.
