{"id":2325,"date":"2019-07-30T07:03:51","date_gmt":"2019-07-30T07:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.karongadiocese.org\/?p=2325"},"modified":"2019-07-30T07:03:51","modified_gmt":"2019-07-30T07:03:51","slug":"ccjp-takes-he4she-campaign-to-pupils-in-karonga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.karongadiocese.org\/index.php\/ccjp-takes-he4she-campaign-to-pupils-in-karonga\/","title":{"rendered":"CCJP takes HE4SHE campaign to pupils in Karonga"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Jordan Simeon-Phiri<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contributor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>60 pupils from three primary schools of Hangalawe,\nLupembe and Vuwa from Nyungwe Zone in Karonga District, have been advised to\nrefrain from harmful cultural practices that will hamper their educational\nfuture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice and Peace (JP) of Karonga Diocese through\nHE4SHE project issued the piece of advice during an engagement meeting held on\nSaturday at Vuwa Primary School whose aim was to interact with pupils to teach them\ntheir rights in terms of gender based violence (GBV) and &nbsp;inclusive education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at the event, JP Project Coordinator Moses Mwakisalu\nsaid pupils are the country\u2019s future leaders who are supposed to be nurtured\nand be given an inclusive education for them to grow into productive citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And speaking on behalf of pupils, Maureen Hara, a\nstandard seven pupil at Vuwa Primary School hailed the JP for the initiative that\nhas withdrawn girls from early marriages and are back to school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nyungwe Zone Primary Education Advisor (PEA) Stenfield\nChilembo said the project has worked miracles by giving an opportunity to girls\nwhose hope and future were doomed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Let me express my gratitude towards the\nimplementers of the project that has benefitted a lot of girls in our\ncommunity,&#8221; Hara said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;With this project, we have managed to bring back to school girls, organized several activities as awareness campaigns for pupils and formed mother groups as well as HeForShe clubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We have also counseled those recalled to forget\nabout the past and concentrate on education while this other group has been\nwarned to avoid stigma and discrimination,&#8221; Chilembo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On his part, Senior Chief Mwirang&#8217;ombe noted that the\nproject has come at an opportune time as lakeshore schools become fertile\ngrounds for promiscuity which prevent girls and boys from going to school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The chief,\nfurther advised pupils to work hard at school, saying the future belongs to\nthem and promised to do everything possible to abolish harmful cultural norms\nfor them to achieve inclusive education and end GBV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was spiced up by poems, drama, choirs that\ncarried messages of GBV but promoted girl child and inclusive education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice and Peace of Karonga Diocese is implementing\nthe project with funding from UN Women.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jordan Simeon-Phiri Contributor 60 pupils from three primary schools of Hangalawe, Lupembe and Vuwa from Nyungwe Zone in Karonga District, have been advised to refrain from harmful cultural practices that will hamper their educational future.
