Bishop Martin Anwel\nMtumbuka of the Diocese of Karonga has commended the efforts made, by the\nfaithful of St Martin\u2019s (Fulirwa) Catholic Church under St Anne\u2019s Parish, towards\nthe construction of a magnificent, strong and long lasting church building. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bishop\nexpressed his word of gratitude when he consecrated and officially opened a newly\nconstructed church building on 28th<\/sup> July, 2019. The Bishop\u2019s visit\nwas in itself a source of joy for the Christians and a source of encouragement and\nstrength. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In his homily, the\nBishop admonished the faithful to desist from polygamous unions as they\ncontradict the teaching of Christ, our Saviour, on marriage which is the life\ntime union of one woman and one man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Bishop further\nadvised the Catholic faithful of this area to refrain from the tendency of accusing\nthe elderly of practicing witchcraft as such accusations are merely based on ignorance,\npoverty and jealousy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n He went on to say\nthat such accusations are done mainly in Africa, particularly in the\nsub-Saharan Africa, where most people are living in abject poverty and\nignorance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Reflecting on the Lord\u2019s\nPrayer, the Bishop said Jesus did not only give us the words for us to use, but\nalso taught us how to pray. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Bishop then\nexpounded the five themes contained in the Lord\u2019s Prayer, which are; relating\nto God in an intimate way as Our Father; praying for the will of God to be done\nalways; praying for our needs as represented by \u201cour daily bread\u201d; asking for\nforgiveness of our sins and finally asking God to deliver us from evil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The construction of\na new church at Fulirwa Sub Station was a response of the Christians to the call\nthe Bishop made in 2012 when he visited them. He advised the faithful to build\na better prayer centre as the old one did not suit to be called a Catholic\nChurch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Following this\ncall, the faithful started mobilizing resources to embark of the construction\nproject. The actual work began in 2014 with moulding of bricks. It has taken\nfive years to complete the building. <\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the\nchairperson of the Local Pastoral Council, the faithful built the new church mainly\nwith contributions from their own pockets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The statistics\nindicate that there are more than two hundred (200) Christians with close to eighty\n(80) junior Sunday school children at this prayer center.\n\nSt Anne\u2019s Parish, currently\nunder the leadership of Father Cosmas Mwanjabala as Parish Priest, has fifty\nprayer centres in total.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" By Benedict Kauteka Bishop Martin Anwel Mtumbuka of the Diocese of Karonga has commended the efforts made, by the faithful of St Martin\u2019s (Fulirwa) Catholic Church under St Anne\u2019s Parish, towards the construction of a magnificent, strong and long lasting church building.
