Twenty-seven Junior Sunday School children (nine boys and\n18 girls) received baptism and First Communion at Mwenje.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nine of the Junior Sunday School children come from\nnon-Catholic families and have been encouraged by their parents to join\nCatholicism because of well-grounded and structured Sunday School project.\nTheir parents were present during the ceremony. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Father Mwafulirwa, who examined the children prior to the\nceremony, expressed satisfaction in the way they responded to questions an\nindication that Sunday School Instructors are committed to forming them into\nstrong Catholics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has also been observed that <em>Likuni Phala,<\/em> which is provided when there are instructions, continues\nto help maintain high numbers of Junior Sunday School children attending\ninstructions as well as liturgy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the Sunday School project is registering\nsuccesses, one of the notable challenges is late registration of children for\nbaptism, which is attributed to among other thing tithes and fees which are\npart of the requirements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pastoral Team urged Small Christian Communities and\nLocal Church Committees (LCCs) to be more committed to the faith formation of\ntheir children by among other things coordinating well the preparation of\nporridge for children; identifying potential instructors from Small Christian\nCommunities; continuous training of instructors and encouraging children to be\nagents of evangelisation to fellow children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sunday School project is being implemented by the Pastoral\nCommission of the Diocese of Karonga with financial support from the Coppell\nFamily of Mexico. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Lino Nyirenda is Catechetical Methodology Advisor for St\nIgnatius Parish <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Lino Nyirenda* The Pastoral Team of St Ignatius Parish has urged the Local Church Committees to embrace the Sunday School project fully if they are to build a strong future Church.
