{"id":2515,"date":"2019-10-17T15:17:13","date_gmt":"2019-10-17T15:17:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.karongadiocese.org\/?p=2515"},"modified":"2019-10-17T15:17:13","modified_gmt":"2019-10-17T15:17:13","slug":"a-project-improving-lives-of-marginalised-communities-in-rumphi-north","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.karongadiocese.org\/index.php\/a-project-improving-lives-of-marginalised-communities-in-rumphi-north\/","title":{"rendered":"A+ Project Improving Lives of Marginalised Communities in Rumphi North"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Deodatus Muriya<\/strong>*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vicar\nGeneral of the Diocese of Karonga, Monsignor Denis Chitete, is impressed with\nthe progress being made by A-Plus Project which the Development Desk (CADECOM)\nof the Diocese is implementing in Rumphi North. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nVicar General made this expression during field monitoring visits to some of\nthe project implementation sites under Phoka VDC. During the tour, the Vicar\nGeneral Visited Dowowo Phoka Irrigation Scheme, appreciated progress on\nsanitation activities, village savings and loans and also village natural\nresource regeneration site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking\nduring the visit, Principal GVH Nanania expressed a work of gratitude to the Diocese\nof Karonga for the support being rendered to ensure that people in his area are\nfood secure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In\nhis remarks, Project Coordinator, Mr Martin Manda, says the communities the\nproject is working with are greatly disadvantaged by poverty which is\naggravated by limited access to basic services like water supply, health,\neducation, electricity, hygiene and sanitation to name a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\nfurther says that due to gender bias, the disadvantages of poverty including\npoor health, lack of economic opportunity, diminished social status and\nviolence fall disproportionately on women and children, who are the most marginalized.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Development Desk is implementing this project with financial support from Caritas Australia, through the National Office (Episcopal Conference of Malawi). Though communities have numerous disadvantages, A+ Project builds on the advantages that the people already have. It begins from the strengths the communities already have. This is called strength based approach.
