{"id":2547,"date":"2019-10-25T16:35:57","date_gmt":"2019-10-25T16:35:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.karongadiocese.org\/?p=2547"},"modified":"2019-10-25T16:35:57","modified_gmt":"2019-10-25T16:35:57","slug":"justice-and-peace-desk-granted-two-new-vawg-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.karongadiocese.org\/index.php\/justice-and-peace-desk-granted-two-new-vawg-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Justice and Peace Desk Granted Two New VAWG Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Vincent Bwinga (Justice and Peace)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nJustice and Peace Desk of the Diocese of Karonga has, on 16<sup>th<\/sup>\nSeptember, 2019, received a grant to implement two <em>Tithetse Nkhanza<\/em> Violence Against Women and Girls projects known as<strong> <em>Actions\nto Transform Social Norms <\/em><\/strong>and <strong><em>Support for VAWG Survivors in Karonga\nDistrict.<\/em><\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking\nduring post award meeting in Lilongwe, <em>Tithetse\nNkhanza<\/em> Team Leader Grace Mawera has confirmed that the Justice and Peace Desk\nalong four other partners have been granted the 2 projects to implement as\npilot projects for three years and six months with an opportunity for a further\nthree-year extension. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commenting\non the implementation of the projects, Mawera says the first three-year period\nis for learning and adaptation and therefore requested all partners to document\nand demonstrate evidence in the implementation; propose best practices to the\nprogram and ensure transparency and accountability in managing finances for the\nproject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On\nissues of safeguarding the rights of beneficiaries, the Team Leader urged all\norganization staff members to avoid sexual advances towards beneficiaries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe\nprojects will be in contact with school girls, boys and women. Therefore, we\nneed to do no harm to any beneficiary. We need to be survivor centered in\ncarrying out our activities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Actions to Transform Social Norms Project focuses\non reduction of prevalence of violence against women and girls and progress\ntowards the full realization of women and children\u2019s\nhuman rights. The project is being implemented using Champion of Change Model\nin seven identified primary schools and one secondary school in the area of Traditional\nAuthority Kilupula. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On this model, the project engages adolescent girls and boys in schools and their\ncommunities to promote positive changes in gender attitudes and behaviours.&nbsp; It creates healthy relationships\namong adolescents through single-sex safe spaces for boys and for girls\nseparately. There are also single-sex safe spaces for parents. Further, the\nmodel promotes engagement and dialogue between various stakeholders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Support for VAWG Survivors Project aims at\nimproving support for VAWG survivors to access justice and related support\nservices. The project is being implemented in following T\/As; Kyungu, Wasambo,\nKilupula and Mwakaboko using Survivor Support Fund Strategy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karonga Women Forum is a lead structure at\ndistrict level directly providing financial support to help survivors access\nservices required to address the issues at hand.
