MARY&#8217;S RESOURCE CENTER FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Wezzie Mwangonde<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karonga Diocese Curia staff have donated essential items to St. Mary\u2019s Resource Center for the Visually Impaired, as the Church\u2019s commitment to serving the marginalized during the Lenten season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking during the handover ceremony, Sister Cecilia Chiumia, Lay Apostolate Coordinator in the Diocese\u2019s Pastoral Department, said the donation was part of this year\u2019s Lenten observance, which focuses on alms giving&nbsp;and the staff felt &nbsp;the need&nbsp;to support visually impaired children who face numerous challenges in meeting their basic needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.karongadiocese.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Aid-for-the-blind.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7589\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.karongadiocese.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Aid-for-the-blind.jpg 1020w, https:\/\/www.karongadiocese.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Aid-for-the-blind-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.karongadiocese.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Aid-for-the-blind-768x578.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.karongadiocese.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Aid-for-the-blind-600x452.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em>Karonga Diocese Curia Staff with some of the visually impaired learners at the school.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sister Chiumia emphasized the importance of caring for the vulnerable, especially during&nbsp;the&nbsp;Lent&nbsp;Season which is&nbsp;a time dedicated to reflection, sacrifice, and acts of love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The donation of clothes, Soya pieces,Maize and monetary contributions symbolizes&nbsp;our solidarity with those in need. As we journey through Lent, we are reminded to extend Christ&#8217;s love through both word and action,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Teacher-In-Charge at the resource center, Mr. Ackim Kayira, expressed gratitude for the Diocese\u2019s support, describing the donation as timely and impactful. He noted that the school had to close earlier in the term due to a shortage of food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that while the government provides a monthly allocation of K350,000, it is insufficient to cover both food and the wages of support staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The donation is timely, it may help our learners return to school earlier ,as they often come two weeks after classes resume.
