On Friday, 18th April 2025, the Bishop of the Diocese of Karonga, His Lordship Martin Anwel Mtumbuka, led The Way of the Cross procession at Ntchowo Outstation in St. Thomas Moore Parish. The Way of the Cross commemorates the suffering and crucifixion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, serving as a reminder for all Christians to reflect on their faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his homily following the procession, Bishop Mtumbuka emphasized that The Way of the Cross should not be viewed merely as a ritual but as an opportunity to embrace unity with one another. He drew parallels between Simon from Cyrene assisting Jesus in carrying His cross and our obligation to support each other through life’s challenges. \u201cWe should be humble and tolerant when facing adversity,\u201d he reminded the congregation, encouraging them to embody Christ’s humility during difficult times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bishop reminded the Christians that even amidst personal trials, be it in marriages, communities, or health crises, believers must remember that these dark moments are not final. \u201cThere is light at the end of the tunnel, and what can help us is to remember our Baptismal promises\u201d he assured them, stating that Jesus Christ represents that light. He likened these challenging periods to Holy Friday when the troubles were overwhelming, however just as Easter Sunday follows Good Friday with hope and resurrection, so too can believers anticipate brighter days ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, Bishop Mtumbuka reiterated a crucial message he shared during Holy Thursday Mass at St. Martin De Porres: \u201cWe were saved at a high price on the cross.\u201d This profound truth serves as a powerful reminder for Christians to uphold their baptismal promises diligently. As we navigate our spiritual journeys and face life\u2019s adversities, let us hold steadfastly to our Baptismal promises and remember that we are called to live out our faith actively and compassionately in every circumstance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
