With bold voices and strong convictions, Catholic children from across Malawi gathered to speak out on issues affecting their lives during the 2025 National Children Congress, held from 31st July to 3rd August at Don Bosco Parish in Area 23, Archdiocese of Lilongwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This historic congress, held under the powerful theme: “Ana ndi Atumiki a Chiyembekezo” \u2013 “Wana ni Wateweti A Chigomezgo” (Children are Missionaries of Hope), brought together young Catholics to reflect, pray, and speak up as agents of change in both Church and society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the closing Eucharistic celebration, the children read out a set of powerful resolutions to the Catholic bishops, tackling key national and spiritual concerns such as: child abuse, child labour, child trafficking, mental health, climate change and Malawi Vision 2063<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also made a heartfelt plea to their parents, saying they should not be left behind at home during Sunday services:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are made in the image of God. We deserve to be in His house, the house of our Father, the Creator of Heaven and Earth.\u201d they said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucky Khalera one of the young participants from Bangwe Parish in the Archdiocese of Blantyre expressed concern that some parish priests focus more on what parents contribute to the Church rather than on the welfare of children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, he described the Congress as: \u201cAn eye-opener and fun at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I will share what I have learned with my fellow children back home so they don\u2019t miss out in the future,” said Khalera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tina Kadondo, Chairperson of the National Children\u2019s Congress Organizing Committee, expressed excitement that over 90% of the preparations were successfully completed, especially as this was the first congress of its kind in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe had many expectations since this was our first time, but today we are happy to say God has been on our side because everything has gone very well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She further shared how moving it was to see Catholic bishops embracing the children\u2019s resolutions, and how this support will help the children grow in faith, especially those who may one day become priests and religious sisters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the congress, children were also encouraged to love and value the Sacrament of Confession and the Holy Eucharist which are tools that will strengthen their spiritual journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next Catholic National Children Congress will take place in the Diocese of Mangochi, with official dates to be announced soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
