FAITH AND SERVICE UNITE: BISHOP MARTIN MTUMBUKA VISITS KASEYE

Ten kilometers off the main Chitipa road, two institutions are quietly proving that faith and service go hand in hand. On November 1st, Bishop Martin Anwel Mtumbuka visited Kaseye Community Hospital and Kaseye Girls Secondary School during his pastoral visit to St. Peters (Lufita) Parish. The Bishop toured both facilities which are managed under the Caritas Commission, the social and economic development arm of the Diocese of Karonga.

After touring the hospital facility, during an interaction, the Bishop commended the hospital staff and management for the great services they are offering to the community. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in patient care as a reflection of Catholic values: “Continue to offer care for the patients in the good way that you do and please treat the patient well in order to reflect the hospital’s Catholic identity.”

He also commended the Hospital on the several Income Generating Activities they are engaging in such as paying services, crop farming, poultry rearing and piggery which have made a substantial contribution to the hospitals income for managing the facility.

The Bishop is welcomed at Kaseye Girls Secondary School by Students

He later on Visited Kaseye Girls secondary School where he had an interaction with the students and teachers at the school. The Bishop also reiterated the words he said earlier at the hospital on ensuring that the Catholic identity is kept in schools. “As a church, we engage in education because Jesus himself was a teacher and we should ensure that apart from providing quality education, the school should also form the children’s moral, cultural and spiritual life regardless of what faith they are from. I am not saying that they should be converted to Catholics but rather they should be able to mould them culturally, morally and spiritually”, said the Bishop.

Kaseye Girls Secondary School performed very well in both the 2025 Junior Certificate of Education and Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations, registering a pass rate of 100% while Kaseye Community Hospital on the other hand, serves over 12,000 people from 28 surrounding villages offering a wide range of health services. As part of the Caritas Commission, both institutions ensure that education and essential health care services are accessible to those in need.
